Annual Report 2088: The senior singles was won by Mrs. McGillicuddy. The Club fours won by a team consisting of two men and two women. Women are now full and equal members of the Nelson Bowling Club. A cup of tea now costs $8. This is reasonable as the cost rose from threepence to 40 cents in the first 100 years, and the subscription rose from $3 to $65, that is about twentyfold. Several coverings of artificial turf have been used over the years. Each time long arguments have taken place as to which brand to use, with members threatening to resign. Artificial lumps have been installed in the green so that members are still able to blame the green when they make a bad shot. This also allows the continuance of the old established custom of members of other Clubs expressing sympathy that our greens are so poor. The Club still offers the opportunity for old men to squabble over trivialities while enjoying real friendship with their fellow members. It is still necessary to be up to the head if you hope to win a game.
